JUICE: Venus Flyby Closest Approach img Video

Approached to within 5,080 km of Venus’s surface

太陽からの距離と光の強さ.png

Near Venus, close to the Sun, the spacecraft is exposed to scorching sunlight of about 2,640 W/m². To protect itself, it uses its large antenna facing the Sun as a shield and employs MLI (multi-layer insulation) for thermal protection. In contrast, sunlight near Jupiter, far from the Sun, is an extremely cold 50 W/m²

Passed the 0.64 AU point

JST : January 1, 2025

JUICE is passing its closest approach to the Sun in the mission, at a distance of 0.64 AU.

( 1AU = the average distance between the Sun and Earth)

JST:  July 22, 2023

Orbit fine-tuning for the Lunar and Earth flyby has been completed.

ESA The Operations team managed to place the spacecraft on the planned trajectory in the first adjustment, even though four separate adjustments had originally been scheduled.

The next main engine burn will be at Jupiter orbit insertion in 2031.

JST: November 17, 2023

for The Lunar - Earth flyby

Orbit adjustment complete

The orbit was adjusted using a powerful thrust of 365 kg, or 10% of the total fuel on board. This will make a double flyby of the Lunar and Earth possible, scheduled for August 2024.The next time the main engine will be used is for Jupiter orbit insertion in 2031.
